Lesson 7- The kids will get to explore through a powerpoint that I have created for them. It will take them through the food pyramid. In the powerpoint they will find each level of the pyramid, how many servings a day they should have, what nutrients are, what is healthy and unhealthy food, healthy restaurants and unhealthy restaurants and most of all they will be able to walk away with a better understanding of a healthy lifestyle. This will take about 20 minutes for the students to navigate through. Click on the link below to explore the food pyramid.
Lesson 8- Here is one of the most fun lessons we will do with the students. They get to explore through widgets. These are very interactive and they will have fun learning which is the most important thing. The Chef Solus and the Food Pyramid Adventure Game is fun way to learn about nutrition. It is an interactive video game that teaches your child through animation, exploration, mini games and challenges about the importance of nutrition. The Nourish Interactive educational nutrition games are a fun and free way to learn about nutrition, health, and fitness! Play The Pyramid Power Game is a fun online word puzzle game. This will expand their creativity one more level. This unit will cover Social Studies, Language Arts, Science and Health and Safety. Lesson Plan 10-This will be our final lesson plan. It consists of a fun video on a visit to the dentist, a quiz over the food pyramid and a word search with words that have to do with health. This lesson will take 30 minutes to complete. This will be a recap of everthing we have learn. By the end of this unit the students will be able to have a variety of ideas on the uses of technology and a great health lesson of hygiene and nutrition habits. I taught this unit because having good hygiene and good teeth is a good life lesson. If a student never brushes their teeth and is not familiar with how important it is to take care of them, in the long run they will suffer. People will get teased and suffer from a lot of other diseases if hygiene and their health is not a priority. Parents should know about this because dental insurance should be something that every parent has. Across the United States a lot of people aren’t getting this because of the recession. It should be a priority because a lot of diseases can come from it and it can ruin someone’s confidence and self esteem if they have rotting teeth and a gum disease. Children need to learn at a young age that nutrition is the most important thing for a long and healthy life. Obesity in the United States is growing at a fast rate and parents need to be aware of the foods their children are consuming. Fast food restaurants have become a habit for a lot of families. Teaching students at a young age what fast food and eating unhealthy does, can prevent a lot of problems in the long run. As a teacher I hope parents can have fun with food in a healthy way at home, get involved with what their children eat and help explain obesity and the hazards of it. Its been a great semester. Thank you!
